Already UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes is ready to add a new title to her name. Invicta FC has announced Nunes will be joining the promotion as part of the athlete development team. What exactly does that mean? The UFC champ will assist in matchmaking and scouting talent in Brazil and the U.S. Southeast.
It sounds like a good role for Nunes and further ties UFC’s connection to Invicta which airs on UFC Fight Pass. Amanda Nunes has recently been in the news with a possible super-fight with UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg floating around. Nunes has expressed interest in the fight, but Cyborg seems hesitant to do it. She instead prefers to face actual featherweights and for the UFC to actually build up its non-existant featherweight division.
Cyborg certainly has a point, but nobody currently at FW has a big enough name compared to Nunes or will draw the type of ppv dollars the promotion so desperately seeks in the WME-IMG era. I find the potential fight intriguing as few opponents Cyborg has faced in the past possess the kind of power or striking skills of Amanda Nunes. I would still favor Cyborg in the match-up, but anyone thinking she would simply steamroll Nunes is foolish.
