I’ve been a fan of martial arts films since I was young. Since first watching Bruce Lee in films like Chinese Connection to discovering new stars like Iko Uwais in The Raid, the movie genre is something I keep on my radar.
Jailbreak, a 2017 Cambodian action movie is the latest film to catch my attention. Already released to much success in Cambodia, Jailbreak recently premiered at Fantastic Fest here in the U.S. Although it doesn’t appear to have a mass U.S. release yet, early reviews are positive and have me anticipating an eventual release. Here is a plot summary courtesy of IMDb.
What started as a simple escort mission will soon turn to chaos as the prisoners of Koh Kla take over the prison grounds. A special task force [Jean-Paul Ly, Dara Our, Tharoth Sam] gets trapped in the prison will have to fight their way out for survival, to protect a key witness [Savin Phillip].
Jailbreak seems poised to put Cambodia and its fighting style of Bokator on the map, just like The Raid movies did for Indonesia. Check out
the trailer below.
