Final thoughts: Less than a year after their father successful complication debut album Cozy Tapes Vol1 was released A$AP Mob are back with Vol2: Too Cozy. Coming into this project I had mixed expectations as the Mob members individually have been having a mixed year. Twelvvy just dropped a good debut albums and Rocky may be winning feature of the year so far for his guest spot on Tyler’s ‘Who Dat Boy’. Whereas Ferg just dropped an average mixtape and Carti’s self titled debut project is in consideration to be one of the worst albums of 2017.
Regardless, the overall talent of A$AP Mob and the mouth-watering features should be enough to make Cozy Tapes Vol 2 a success right? Unfortunately not. The tap seemed to fall short in some aspect track after track. For every consistent hot Rocky verse there is a bad Carti verse, for every feature of a Schoolboy Q’s quality there is a feature if Lil Yatchy’s quality. If the production was on point then the rapping wasn’t and vice versa. Even Frank Ocean didn’t sound his stellar self on the track ‘RAF’. Although he is trying his hand at trap on the final verse of this.
Cozy Tapes Vol 2 is supposed to showcase the vast array of talent A$AP Mob possess. Instead it showed the gulf in class between certain artists. This doesn’t mean at all there were not positives to be drawn from this album. The song ‘What Happened’ featuring Joey Bada$$, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, Meechy Darko and Zombie Juice is produced by RZA and is easily the best song on the album, everyone nailed it on this one. Also Rocky sounded his brilliant self throughout which should have everyone excited for his next solo project. Finally the tapes 3 skits are a welcoming comical spine to this tape.
To cut a long review short Cozy Tapes Vol2: Too Cozy can be described in one word: Underwhelming. 4/10
