WWE Smackdown Recap 06/13/2017

The Smackdown recap tonight’s edition of Smackdown is live from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The PPV WWE Money in the Bank is in five days.

The show opened with the New Day coming to the ring with a local jazz band, The Soul Rebels. They talked about Smackdown being in New Orleans, the site of WrestleMania next year and walking into Wrestlemania as the Smackdown Tag Champions. Xavier said that the Usos were an off off off off off Broadway version of the movie “Straight Outta Compton”. The Usos came out then the Fashion Police then The Colons came.

The first match of the night was New Day (Xavier & Kofi) & The Fashion Police vs The Usos & The Colons in an eight-man tag. The match was a typical tag team match with the heels having the upperhand in this match the New Day received the hot tag with Kofi. Kofi hit his first Trouble in Paradise in what feels like years. Epico tagged in, but shortly thereafter, New Day finished him when Xavier landed a flying top rope knee onto Primo who was being held vulnerable in a backbreaker position mid-ring. Xavier got the pinfall. The match itself was about fifteen minutes.

In my opinion in the match the New Day looked levels above the other tag teams in the match. Xavier moved very fluidly and Kofi looked amazing. I would give this match a grade of B-.
Next was a backstage segment with AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Sami Zayn with Sami doing that weird counter thought thing he does. It felt like filler.

Mojo Rawley had another backstage segment this time he was interviewed but after it Zack Ryder walked up behind him and told him he has nothing to be ashamed of. Ryder said they have some unfinished business as a team. Mojo was happy and they shook and patted each other. The two as a team will be just above the The Colons in importance. I feel like the New Day will have a nice long run with the Tag Team Titles.

The next match was Naomi vs Tamina. Naomi is the sexiest woman in the WWE all time. Lana came out to “scout”. This was a very quick match. Tamina scored a near fall after a turning chokeslam. Tamina climbed to the top rope. Naomi yanked her to the mat and then moonsaulted her for the win. After the match Lana attacked Naomi and hit some kind of front ended sitout slam. Lana’s gown got caught and she had some trouble getting up which sold the move. She then got up and held up the Women’s Smackdown Championship.

Because of Naomi outfit I grade that whole seven minute interaction an A+.

Next Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers came out to the ring. He said he will prove on Sunday that Orton is a coward who is afraid to let down his hometown and his family. He said even though he has mentioned Randy’s father by name, Randy has yet to come out and face him like a man. He said it is fear of him, the Modern Day Maharaja. He said Randy now hides in the weeks like a defanged garden snake. He said he will tear him down piece by piece until there is nothing left of the Orton name. He said the day of the Viper is finished and it’s a new era of the Modern Day Maharaja. He said he would speak to his people in his language of Punjabi. A “USA” chant broke out. Orton’s music finally interrupted. Orton came from behind and hit the “RKO out of nowhere” on Jinder. The Singh Brothers ran to Jinder’s aid. Orton returned to the crowd from whence he came to soak up cheers. It is sad he can no longer do the Randy pose the right way anymore because his body is so beaten up.

Besides that Randy is boring compared to how intriguing he was even four years ago.

Baron Corbin told Kevin Owens he’s out of his mind if he thinks he’s going to listen to his ideas for strategy. Owens said he doesn’t like Corbin, and doesn’t like Dolph Ziggler either, but he dislikes Ziggler a little less. Owens suggested at MITB on Sunday to Corbin and Ziggler they work together to get rid of the other three and then battle it out.

The third match of the night was Charlotte Flair vs Natalya. This was a back and forth match until Natalya threw Charlotte head-first into the middle turnbuckle. Charlotte came back with several chops and a knee drop. When Charlotte climbed to the second rope, Natalya got up and powerbomb her to the mat for a near fall. Charlotte then made a comeback by countering a sharpshooter attempt and quickly finished Natalya with a big boot and Natural Selection for a pinfall victory in a seven minute match.

I would grade it C+ because it was average.

Another Fashion Files aired Fandango said in his thoughts which we could hear that he can’t wait to show his pecs off to his main man, Breezy. He went looking for Breezy. He found him attacked on the floor in the back. Fandango asked him to describe who attacked him. Breeze said, among other traits, they had one arm. Then he said, “No, two arms!” As Breeze described the culprits, Fandango sketched them. He revealed it was a picture of two stick figures. Breeze said, “That’s them!” They left together.

Finally the main event match started Owens came out first and Nakamura came out last to the biggest pop. So Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin & Dolph Ziggler faced off against AJ Styles & Shinsuke Nakamura & Sami Zayn in a six man tag. Everybody got their shots in. The ending sequence happened when Corbin charged at Sami next but ate a clothesline. Sami then pretended to try to tag out to Styles, and then ducked a charging Ziggler and a charging Owens. When he finally lunged toward Styles and Nakamura, Owens and Ziggler yanked them to the floor. Sami managed to a Helluva Kick seconds later on Corbin to get the win for his team.

This match I’m giving a B+ grade.

After the match Owens and Ziggler hit Sami with a ladder then they hit AJ Styles. Corbin hit both Zayn and Owens with the ladder. Shinsuke pushed Corbin off the ladder then Nakamura hit Corbin with a KINSHASA. He then climbed the ladder and grabbed the Money In The Bank briefcase.

Overall, nothing really popped for this to be a go home show before a PPV. But it was a solid SmackDown. I expect after this week it will pick up by a lot to set up Summerslam.

Now here is are my predictions for the Money in the Bank PPV:

In the inaugural Women’s Money In the Bank match I’m picking Tamina to grab that briefcase and become Ms.Money in the Bank.

In the SmackDown Women’s Championship match I am picking Lana to get the upset victory to become champion because I have this belief that at least one of the women champions have to be on Total Divas.

In the SmackDown Tag team Championship match I think the New Day become the new champions to give the SmackDown Tag division its first true champion.

In the Money in the Bank match I am picking the King of Strong Style Shinsuke Nakamura to become the new Mr.Money In the Bank. I also think he will cash it in before the PPV ends to lead us to Cena vs Nakamura at Summerslam.

In the WWE Championship match I believe that Jinder Hardbody Mahal will retain the title against the Viper Randy Orton. This match should be the end of this feud hopefully.
